Removing a customer

How to delete a customer, what it means for your data and GDPR

Deleting customers from the admin.

This new functionality means you can now remove any customers from your GG admin. You may want to remove a customer if they have requested it or as part of your GDPR admin.

Once you have removed the customer, the personal data linked to them will be scrambled rather than removed completely, ensuring reporting on historical sales data remains coherent.

These are the following things that happen when a customer is deleted:

  • Customer record is removed from customer list
  • Sensitive data in the customer record is scrambled. Order data is retained such as total order etc
  • The customer remains in the customer report under ‘GDPR deleted user’
  • The Stripe payment method is removed

How to delete a customer

To delete a customer, navigate to the customer record of which you want to remove. A ‘Delete customer’ button is located in the bottom right of their overview page.

If you are sure you want to remove the customer click on the delete button. Removing a customer is an irreversible action, so do make sure you are certain deletion is necessary before continuing.

Once the delete button is pressed a confirmation pop up will appear. This adds an extra layer of security in case you click on the button by accident. Click ‘confirm’ to finish the removal of the customer from your admin.

The customer will no longer appear in the customer list, but their data still appears in the customer report. The customer record is retained but any sensitive data has been scrambled such as name, address and email.

Any non sensitive data such as orders, tags and delivery rounds is retained so this can be reported on in the future.

In the customer record of a deleted customer, the history of their orders will remain intact so you don’t lose any of the vital order information for reporting on as shown below.

What happens when the customer wants to start ordering again?

If the customer wants to restart orders they will need to start by creating a new account and entering their details again.
