What are box swaps and how does this work?

Give your customers more choice and convenience with swaps

💡
Growing Good offers you the tools to make your customer's experience as flexible as possible. Common veg box grumblings such as “I have too many Onions left from last week” are a thing of the past with our box swap functionality.

How does this work on our website?

Customers can make their own swaps through the system directly in their shopping basket.

The customer will see their box contents ahead of their next delivery. They can then change any item by clicking on the swap arrows next to a product. This will cross out the item and then offer a list of alternatives.

There are different ways of managing this and the choice is yours. Some examples include:

Allow the same number of swaps across the board on every box (https://www.sandylanefarm.co.uk/)

Increase the number of swaps as the size of the box increases (Barcombe)

Just having certain box(es) that you allow customers to swap on. (https://www.eastcoastorganics.co.uk/)

How does it work?

How many you allow on a box product is up to you and the flexibility you want to give your customers. This number can be set in the settings of a veg box product. Make sure ‘allow swaps’ is toggled on and a number is specified in the field beneath it.

Currently, the system makes available any product you have selected as ‘swap’ under boxed options.

If just ‘swap’ selected the system will make available to the customer to swap any product that is a up to 25p over the price of the original item and any cost below. This will eventually be configurable by the user.

High value swaps

High-value swaps mean the customer pays the difference between the high-value item selected and the original item. For example If the original item is a bag of Salad at £2.75 and the customer chooses a bunch of Asparagus that is £4.75 the customer will be charged an extra £2.00 on top of the box price.

💡

For this to work both ‘Swap’ and ‘High value swap’ need to be selected in the product details.

This is available to the customer when the box contents are published for the week ahead the same as a normal swaps.

Manually adding a swap to a customers order.

You can manually make a change to a customers box contents after the order has been published. You can do this by accessing the customers order record and then selecting ‘swap’ by one of the listed box contents. Select the replacement by clicking on it from the drop down. This confirms the swap.
